DYSPRAXIA FOUNDATION CALLS ON LOCAL PEOPLE TO GET BEHIND CAMPAIGN

Local people of all ages across the UK are being urged support the Dyspraxia Foundation’s annual awareness week Dyspraxia – Making sense of it all: The Professional Approach (27th September – 4th October 2008). Local groups will be holding fundraising and awareness events all over the country during this week.

The Dyspraxia Foundation's week-long campaign seeks to raise awareness of the condition – an impairment of the organisation of movement, which can lead to problems with co-ordination, balance, fine motor skills, language, thought and perception. It is a misunderstood condition, yet has very real complications for those living with it, whether at school, in the workplace or in relationships.

Eleanor Howes, General Manager for the Foundation says: “So many people are still unaware of dyspraxia and its symptoms. We hope people from the local area and community will arrange or support local events to not only help raise vital funds for the charity, but to learn more about the condition and the support available”.

This year's annual campaign will specifically target teaching and educational professionals across the UK to try and outline the early signs and symptoms.

Dyspraxia Foundation Trustee and parent, Theresa Hart, adds; “With a condition such as dyspraxia, early diagnosis is crucial, which is why this year we were keen to focus our awareness-raising programme specifically at teaching and educational professionals. Only with their support can the necessary steps be taken to ensure children are properly diagnosed and given the appropriate support needed”.
